SEA

Positioned to be a global leader in Air, Land and Sea mobility and sales support.

Turkish defense contractor STM and ASFAT have inked a deal for exporting within the scope of Pakistan MILGEM project, Turkey's largest defense export. The two companies signed an agreement on engineering solutions for supplying and integrating the main propulsion system, according to a statement by STM.

The main propulsion systems, which constitute the most important platform systems of the ships, provide the movement of the ships.

With this latest technology, the Pakistan Navy will strengthen its fleet.

The construction of the MILGEM corvettes, which will be produced for the Pakistan Navy under ASFAT's main contracting, will be carried out at the Istanbul Shipyard Command and Karachi Shipyard.

In July 2018, Pakistan Navy signed a contract for the acquisition of four MILGEM-class ships with ASFAT.

According to the plan, two corvettes will be built in Turkey and the next two will be built in Pakistan which also involves technology transfer.

In October 2019, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan along with Pakistan Navy chief Adm. Zafar Mahmood Abbasi had cut the first metal plate of the first MILGEM Ada class corvette during a ceremony in Istanbul.

Turkey is one of the 10 countries in the world which can build, design, and maintain warships using its national capabilities.

The Pakistan Navy Fleet Tanker Project (PNFT) Agreement was signed on January 22, 2013 in Rawalpindi/Pakistan between the Pakistan Ministry of Defence Production and our company, which includes the design and construction of the Navy Fleet Tanker for the purpose of meeting the operational needs of Pakistan Navy.

As the main contractor of the PNFT project, our company was responsible for providing the ship design package and the material package including materials, devices and systems to be used in shipbuilding and equipment, and building the ship in Karachi Shipyard.

The vessel, which was designed in accordance with the classification rules for the purpose of replenishment at sea/logistics support at sea as solid and liquid cargo for Pakistan Navy ships in line with the needs and requests of the Pakistan Navy, has a weight of 15,600 tons, a length of approximately 155 metres and a maximum speed of 20 knots.

Pakistan Navy Fleet Tanker, one of the largest export projects of Turkey on a platform basis, was launched on August 19, 2016 with a ceremony held in Karachi. After its equipment activities, it performed its first cruise on the Indian Ocean on March 31, 2018, took the name PNS MOAWIN and delivered to the Pakistan Navy on October 16, 2018.

In addition, the following services have been provided by our company:

  • Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and spare parts,

  • Maintenance, storage and user trainings for the crew and shipyard personnel

  • Technical support for ship building and outfitting to Karachi Shipyard.

Thanks to STM, approximately 20 Turkish companies were able to take part in the Pakistan Navy Fleet Tanker project, largely owing to the industrialisation experience our company has gained during the MİLGEM project. Thus, the project also created an opportunity to use the indigenous products of the Turkish defence industry and the shipbuilding industry and to expand Turkish companies abroad.

Agosta-90B submarine modernization owned by Pakistan Navy:

STM received the submarine modernization tender by competing with the French manufacturer of submarines. STM has achieved a rare success in the world in this tender.

On 22 June 2016, due to the contract between the Pakistan Navy and STM for the Half-Life modernization of the French-built Agosta-90B class submarines in the inventory of the Pakistani Navy, the modernization of the first submarine began in Pakistan.

The modernization project of Agosta-90B class submarines belonging to Pakistan Navy Command, which is the first engineering export of Turkey within the scope of a platform requiring strategic and advanced technology such as submarines, is carried out under the main contractor of STM.

The modernization scope includes the shot Control System, sonar suites, electronic warfare, radar and Periscope systems. In addition, modifications will be made on the pressure-resistant boat, which is one of the most important parts of the submarine. The contract was extended in 2018 when it was signed for the second submarine. There is an option for the modernization of the third submarine.

The project is being carried out in Pakistan and all labor is provided by PN Dockyard.

Systems developed by domestic companies such as HAVELSAN and Aselsan were exported in this process.

Pakistan has 3 French-designed Agosta-90B class diesel-electric submarines. The Pakistan Navy calls the submarines the Khalid class.

The first submarine was built at the DCSN Shipyard in France. The other 2 submarines were built in Pakistan by technology transfer. 3 submarines joined the Pakistan Navy between 1999 and 2006.

The submarines have 4 533 mm torpedo tubes. It can carry 19 heavy torpedoes or SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles. Pakistan acquired the SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missile alongside the heavy torpedo.
